Default '91 Civic Fuel Filter question...

Is it possible to clean a clogged fuelfilter, or do you always have to replace it?

I bought a new fuel filter about a year ago and I recently ran the car out of gas (fuel gage crapped out) so now it's clogged again, can I clean it out?

Thanks all,
Aza[&o]

You won't clean it effectively. Besides, you're supposed to change it every 12 months anyway. It's due. They're only $13.

There's a pre-filter on the inlet of the pump in the tank. That should be changed too as it seems you have a lot of crud in the tank.

That means I have to drop the tank though, right? - I always have to pay someone because I don't have a garage. Just street parking here.

Thanks guys,
Aza

No, you can take the bottom cushion of the back seat out and service the pump by reaching the top of the tank thru an access panel.

Well, I tried getting t6he back seat cushion off, but couldn't figure out how to do that. In the front part of the seat cushion, underneath it is held on by two u-shaped pins in slots that I couldn't release. Does someone know how to remove the rear seat cushion?

if it's the same as a 92-00 civic, there's a bolt behind the drivers side rear seat's seatbelt buckle. it holds another one of those U shaped brackets to the frame.

once you unbolt this, you should be able to lift the back of the seat cushion up so that the 2 other U shaped pins act like a hinge. then remove the seat.
