I have this humming noise that I can't pin point where it's coming from (sounds like underneath the hood or close to the wheels). I took it to Les Schwab and they said that the bearings are fine. I found this website
http://www.autohausaz.com/html/car_noises.html
that identifies sounds your car makes. It suggested that the humming noise was the differential if the bearings were fine. How much does one cost and is it easy to install myself? Any help would be great....Thanks!!!

I broke down and took it in and it was only the wheel bearing. That saved my butt about $550. Whew!!!

when i first bought my car i drove it home and heard the same type of noise...it was more of a hard gringing noise then a humming..my dad suggested the bearings....i went to buy them at pepboys and damn...it was like 115$ for the 2 fronts...i had to take my spindles off and send them out to get the bearings pressed in and out...it was an experience ill tell you that much...my dad was tellinm me that the bearings when he was growin up were like 15 a peice...heh times sure have changed...:D

I am taking it into a shop and getting the right bearing replaced. $195...not too bad. I'd do it myself but I am learning that working on cars is all about the RIGHT TOOLS!!!!

yea thats the problem. tools
it might be a cheap easy fix for a diy'r but soo man ytools that only serve 1 purpose that u will use only once are worth the price of the tool. keep in mind you can borrow tools from autozone free. they have a ton of ****e that comes in real handy

hell yeah! the loan a tool is awesome, i use it all the time. dont use kragens though. they rent it to you and if you dont get it back in like 2 days they charge you a lot. ive had the autozone spring compressor for like a month and a half, and when i brought it back they were like "thanks, have a nice day."

i know...if i had a machhine press it would be perfect...i bought the bearings 116$ for both fronts and then realized i was gunna have to send the stuff away..it ended up about 200 bucks and i did my own labor!...the experience counts for something though i guess
