I just changed my tranny shift solenoid because the one I had broke. I refilled it with fluid and added tranny treatment. When I shift into drive or reverse the ENTIRE engine moves but harder in reverse. I know it's not the mounts because I just put those in about two months ago and the problem wasn't there before the solenoid broke. What do you think it can be? Thanks. By the way, the solenoid broke by hitting a rock if that helps.

It's normal for the engine to move some. If it moves a lot and makes a bang or clunk noise, you have a bad mount, or the bolt came out of a mount. That's all it can be. There's nothing other than the mounts holding the engine/transmission assembly in place.

I was browsing around and I saw on another honda forum that this can also happen due to using a different fluid without properly draining and refilling the transmission. I used honda fluid but I never had to put any since I hardly drove the car when I got it and I know you're to change it every few thousand miles. I'm thinking maybe there was some generic stuff in it before if what I saw on another forum is true about using another fluid causing this. But like I said I just changed the mounts and I'm sure nothing's loose because I double check them whenever I have to go in the hood or under the car. Also like I said, it was fine before the solenoid broke and all I did was change that and added fluid and treatment.

Two months ago was a long time, especially considering the car hit a big rock during that time. Some aftermarket mounts can fall apart quickly.

If the engine is idling too fast, putting the AT into gear will be a rather jarring experience.

You don't have to use Honda ATF. That should not happen as a result of non-Honda ATF. When you get your ATF changed at a shop other than a Honda dealer do you think they use Honda ATF? No, they don't. Otherwise they would have to carry special ATF for each car make.

I know that's a long time but like I said I haven't driven the car much. I loosened the passenger side mount a bit today and strangely the noise went away. Later on it came back but not as hard so I was thinking of trying to loosen it a bit more just to see what happens. It was loose before the solenoid broke but I tightened it after that so maybe could be that. I will let you guys know. And thanks for the info on the fluid. I know you don't HAVE to use Honda fluid. I was just saying that I read that having different types in it could cause that. There was another type in it before but I didn't flush it out before the honda fluid was put in so I was just thinking that maybe there was a mixture of some sort that's all. But like I said I will try the mount thing and let you know from there.Also I took a look at the mounts while I was under the hood and they're all fine just to let you know.
