Can you replace a TPS sensor on a d16z6? I have a dead spot in my pedal and I am almost positive that the TPS is bad. The car has a ton of miles on it. I checked with honda and they said it is attached to the throttle body and you have to replace the entire assembly. Any help is greatly appreciated.
oh, the car is a 1995 civic ex with the d16z6 as well. I have replaced the timing belt, idler pulley, cam/crank seals, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump, sending unit, and all belts. I also checked the ignition timing. The car is getting 36 mpg, but it hits a dead spot about half pedal every time no matter how you accelerate. Its in the same spot. I can accelerate all the way to the upper rpms if i accelerate slowly. I just wanted to add this information in.
No CEL though? You can test the sensor with a voltmeter to be sure it is bad.
Officially the sensor is not replaced seperately, but if you can find one it can be. Drill out the breakaway screws and put the new one on with regular screws. The sensor must be calibrated when replaced onto the throttle body.
The car has had the same issue since i brought it home. We have replaced the timing belt and everything listed above. We have also checked the ignition timing several times. We even retarted and advanced the timing. It still has the exact same issue now as it did before. I do know that it acts up in the exact spot in the pedal every time.
Measure voltage from the center wire to ground with the sensor connected, key on, but engine not running. The voltage should increase smoothly from 0.5 to 4.5 as you move the throttle slowly from closed to wide open.
To calibrate a new one, loosen the screws and rotate the sensor so you get 0.5 volts with the throttle closed.
