Whuddup yall. Before i start, FYI, im a newbie, and im only 16. This happened about a week ago after i've been driving about a month. This guy in a 96 civic is on my a** on the interstate with his highbeams on for about 20 mins. We both get off at the same exit and fortunately the stoplight turns red and were the only cars on the road. the speed limit was 55. He pull up beside me and revs up. I notice he has altezza tail lights, cat-back exhaust, shiny rims, and green neons in the cabin. So im like OK! and was like here is my first street race. So i return the revs. The light turns green and were neck and neck for about 8 seconds, around 75-80 mph, then i see that my automatic tranny is just enough to beat his manual. I gradually am a car length in front of him at 115mph, and i see a reflection from my headlights in the distance. I slam on brakes till im down to 60mph. The guy screams past me and from then on all i could see was blue flashing lights. Close call huh?

Kid, streetracing is not only illegal, but for you it is very dangerous. No offence, but you haven't been driving long enough to be able to respond adequately.

yeah i know, but its my passion. i mean i grew up around it. my brother created O.K. my dad and my uncle are both car junkies. its the least i can do. fyi, i dont do most of my racing on the street. i live 2 minutes away from a drag strip and every friday night i race my friends and other people. i just cant stop. Thanks for your reply

I would look for another passion.

1 month driving experience and street racing passion can equal no good. although I belive most of us have done it, but I havent in almost 3 years now which is real hard sometimes when I know I can beat like 99% of the cars that want to race. Oh well, Im alive and out of jail and intend to keep it that way for a long time.

DaKillahCIVIC,
Trust me i have been in your shoes b4. You have a kick @ss car, and some punk in an integra wants to race. You know that you can take him...after all his car is all stock...on the outside. So you do race him and he's droped a gsr into it. He's 25 and knows how to drive. You end up getting beat. been there done that. But what about the one time that someone pulls out from a side street infront of you? Or your scaner didn't pick up the cop on the corner? Or the guy you are racing takes a cheap shot and trys to push you off the road. I know i sound like a mother but like patrick said, take it to the track. If you really love your car you'll play it safe.

I know its it's risky. but sometimes i cant help myself. I'm just getting it out of my system for a while. i appreciate your concern. please don't call me kid. i've been living in my brother's shadow for 16 years now and now i am making my own. i know im young and inexperianced, but please dont call me kid.

DaKillahCIVIC, i didn't mean to call you a kid. Looking back on my post i never said you were a kid. I'm only a year older than you...;trust me i know how it feels to live in an older brothers shaddow. I'm just trying to save you from stuff that i went through. I was riding passenger in my cousins CRX when he was racing some guy, the guy ran us off the road. he totaled the car. and i have a permantly messed up knee. Just be safe

Jeeze everyone needs to get off his butt. At least he did it on the interstate instead of weaving in and out of traffic during rush hour. Good kill Killaciv. It sounds like hes not some moron who just got done watching 2f2f, so more power to ya killaciv.

and i agree with US3R, but only because im recently guilty of the same problem [&o] but mine was at 11 at night on a half mile strip of road that gets virtually no traffic even during rush hour against some pricks laughin at my civic, oh yeah...and mah dad told me to race 'em (he was in the passenger seat)

Hey, just about everyone does it...(raced a 93 Accord Coupe on I-95...stick, ass handed to me on a platter:D ) It's just that you gotta keep people including urself safe. Again, experience is crucial. If you feel evel slightly that you can't handle ur car - slow down immediately...it just means you haven't been driving long enough. I'm not saying that I'm the best driver out there, I know I'm not, but I'm better than the guy that busted his CRX into a guardrail while trying to race an STi around here.

First off, welcome to another 7th gen. However, I must correct your signature. There is no such thing as a 1.8 iVTEC engine. There is no K18. You have a 1.7 SOHC VTEC, the D17A2.

Second, if you're 16 and just got your license a month ago, you have absolutely no business street racing. That is all. You are just learning how to drive a car, much less control one at its limits. If you're going to keep doing it, be careful or take it to the track. 16 year olds have no business racing on the street.

Oh come on, a monkey can shift from 2nd to 5th or slam the gas down on the interstate. As long as hes just doing a small light to light or a quick run on the interstate not goin over 105, nothings gunna happen. Like I said, its not like hes weaving in and out of traffic or switching lanes or anything. Hes just driving in a straight line.

se7ensectoolate
05-13-2005, 09:52 AM
Just because you're going in a straight line doesn't mean you can't lose control of the car. Just a few months ago, two kids that went to my old high school were racing on Hwy 364 and they lost control. The car flipped and they both died. They got what they deserved and I'm just glad that they didn't kill some innocient person that was on the highway at the same time. I don't see how I, of all people, am the only one that isn't condoning his actions.

Thanks se7en for ure corrections. I dunno where i got 1.8L from. lol. But i do have to disagree. 16 year olds have all the right in the world to race on the street. They just need to know the consequences of what they were about to do. I wouldn't have done what i did if i knew it was unsafe. There were no other cars on the road and i knew all of the consequences. I thought of all of the "outs" just incase something did happen. The I also know the area in which i did the racing. And also, i know how to control my car. i have pushed it to its limits on the track, and im not about to do it on the street and endanger peoples' lives. i knew what i was doing.

se7ensectoolate
05-13-2005, 03:02 PM
Fair enough, just as long as you don't choose rush hour or anytime there are many people out. Thinking of all the possible "outs" is a good thing to do. You have to slow everything down in your mind, that's what I do. I've seen things happen way too many times. I mean shoot, an LS1 Camaro SS that I was racing a year or so ago ripped the 2-3 shift while he was in some water or something and it spun out and hit a lightpole. The right side of the car nearly disintegrated and it was a good thing that I was a couple cars ahead of him when it happened. I kept a piece of his wheel that disintegrated during the accident, and it sits on my workbench as a reminder.

WHATS UP WITH THE DUDE (SE7ENSECTOOLATE) SAYING THOSE KIDS DESERVED TO DIE? THAT IS RETARTED AND COLD. YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT UNDERSTAND THE HEART THAT GOES INTO TUNING THESE CARS. WE SHOULDNT BE TEARING EACH OTHER DOWN HERE. THIS POST IS ABOUT BRAGGING RIGHTS. WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO TO SAY THAT SOMEONE DESERVED TO DIE DOING SOMETHING THEY LOVED. IT IS UNFORTUNATE IT HAPPENNED BUT UNNECESSARY FOR THEM TO BE SPOKEN OF IN THAT MANNER. GET A LIFE, LOOSEN UP, OR SHUT UP. I DONT WANT TO HEAR YOUR NEGATIVITY

The driver and passenger were drunk. Not only did they drive drunk, but they raced drunk. It's called natural selection if you ask me. They knew the consequences and did it anyway. They did get what they deserved. Like I said before, I would've felt sorry if they hit some innocient person. Yes, I do understand what goes into a car. I've put countless hours into mine. Get a life and stop thinking you know everything. You don't know a thing about me or my car n00b. If you don't like my take on it, then don't read it.

se7ensecondstoolate - YOU ARE A MORON, AND IN MY PERSONAL OPINION A FAKE ON HERE ATTEMPTING TO GARNER ATTENTION. YOU ARE JUST NOW MENTIONING THAT THEY WERE DRUNK TO MAKE IT OK THAT YOU SAID THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED. YOU ARE ALSO A HYPOCRITE. YOU TALK SMACK ABOUT THESE GUYS RACING ON THE STREET, BUT I SAW YOUR VERY OWN WORDS ON ANOTHER STRING SAYING THAT YOU RACE ON THE STREET. YOU SAID YOU DODGED BETWEEN 2 CARS DOING 135MPH. WHATEVER, I DONT BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU SAY. YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE. "YOU AINT GOT TO LIE TO KICK IT" YOU PROBABLY DRIVE A FORD ESCORT OR BUM RIDES FROM YOUR MOM.

It all boils down to this;
we've all raced, we've all been told to not race.
No matter how much you tell someone not to race they are still going to do it.
Especially if they are a guy between the ages of 16-28. (sorry to single you guys out)
All we can do it offer our advice and hope he plays it safe.
He seems like he knows the dangers of racing. Yeah he's only 16 and dosn't know how to drive a car as well as someone who's in their 20's. But like everyone else that's ever raced you do it for the thrill or the bragging rights. Let's not thread jack and turn this into a b*tch-fest.

i feel ya Barb. i'm the newbie here, didnt mean to start so much sh*t. i already called a truce w/ Se7ensectoolate (see my thread "where are all the pics?") he said he wants to end it. i'm cool with that. no sense in talking smack on a site where we cant, as Mad7's so lovingly put it "throw fisticuffs". i had no intention of bringing it to that level because i am not a sh*t talker (i do talk plenty of sh*t when in competition, though, i.e. racing). i just speak my mind. 99% of people who talk **** are afraid to walk it. and you obviously cant prove how hard you are with words over a thread when you are 100's of miles apart. so i have spoken my mind, everyone else has spoken there's, tell jack johnson and tom o'leary to go home. i want to get back to friendly posting about tuning Honda Civics, the only reason i joined this site in the first place. NOW, cant we all just get along? :(
