One of the diy websites said it cost $70 for him to make one. The AEM is only $137 for the short ram, I'm not thinking about the $220 one.

well the V2 installed on a 93 civic si after tuning showed a gain of 5whp and 4tq, twice that of the old aem cai. something about sound waves enhancing combustion cyl filling. from what ive heard the short ram does virtually nothing when compared to the cai being that its suckin in hot air. i guess it would be as effective as a cai if you were to feed it nothing but cool air.

So it's much better to get the air from outside the compartment. It does make sense. The shorty is just hung over the engine, but doesn't get any of the exhaust heated air but still the engine abient heat. The extended on goes to the bottom or front to get real cooler air. I think I'm 'getting' it now. Thanks

This is a huge discussion anywhere u go. CAI or short ram... all the air under your hood is hot, the CAI takes it from a SLIGHTLY cooler location. The downside is the intake pipe is longer so you actually lose some of the low RPM torque with the CAI, plus the short ram sounds way better! I personally went for the short ram (AEM to be exact) because everyone knows the best thing about a 4-banger is its high end power (ESPECIALLY A VTEC)... the low end is the part that needs help, with the CAI you are just hurting it alittle more, plus the HP gain btwn the 2 arent that big. Just my opinion...

Good info the polo,\my previous car was a Corolla, under the Prizm badge. It stayed stock. But this Civic (altho it's only an LX) has soo much available for it, I keep seeing new things I'd like to try on a limited budget. Cars are down my list for modding, but they have to be reliable. I spent most me $$$ on the bike and radios. But that's a another subject.
