Hey guys I have a Question!! I have heard talk about the Vtec controllers! wat do they do? are they efficient? should i get one on a stock motor? just lookin for some ideas!! Thanks
v-tec controllers are used to adjust your v-tec. the same as apexi the v-tec controller wires up to your ecu for you to set the v-tec to where ever you want it to kick in. example w.o controller your normal v-tec is around 5,000-5,500 rpms. with v-tec controller you can set it to 4,000 for that niiice sound and pick up in your lower rpm range. i've seen people lose a second off there time with v-tec controllers if i were you i would get it but there a lil expensive.
Theres alot more to a vtec controller then that. Ive seen people lose time with one cause they set it too low. Vtec is not just a larger cam profile change, it has all different fuel maps to accomodate the larger cam lobes. I belive Jackson Racing makes one that also switches the fuel and air maps along with the switch over point lower. If you buy another one and just lower the activation rpm it wont really do much but make a lot of noise earlier. I had one in my old si and if I turned it down to like 4400 you could feel the cam switch a little bit and then when it got up to 5500 where it mormally switched you could feel the power kick in. THis was with an Apexi VAFC. The Vafc can be a very valuable tool if tuned correctly, ie....on a dyno or with a wideband. If you have one and have no idea what you are doing you could pop your motor too. Tuning is best left to the experienced.
