Does anyone know if this mod also applies to the new Firefox 2.0.1?

I doubt that doing this simply for browsing will trigger it, but increasing max-simult requests in higher bandwidth applications can hang your modem.

I had to decrease that value in Auzreus (Bit-Torrent Client) to keep it from hanging my modem several times a day when downloading...

But like I said prolly fine in this application.  But if that does start to happen you'll know y.
