i have to say, your motor needs all the help it can get. for the cost of rebuilding it, you could geta newer sohc vtec engine, probably for the same amount of $$$

We'll let's see here...

How about some new Nippon Iridium Spark Plugs to start with..only cost you about $12.99 each... then how about a new set of wires by Vi-Tech at about $165.00 for 4 wires..
Not much left to spend now, so go fill your tank and your done already...

you can use your stock tranny ( 88-91 si trans would be better though) so just get the complete motor and ecu out of a 92-95 civic (d16z6) which is obd1 or out of a 96-00 civic(d16y8) these should be out of an ex or si. dont be tempted by the d15z1 out of the 92-95 vx, or the 96-00 hx (not sure of the engine code, im sure someone here knows it.) its a super gas-saver versin of vtec. go with the z6 or y8. the z6 is probably a little easier, and definately a little cheaper. but the y8 is a little better, due to the combustion chamber design, and has less miles. check ebay and see if anyone is close enough to drive and pick it up, as shipping will cost almost as much as the motor. also check out thepartstrader.com you can search for stuff close to you.
