Anyway, I went to an AutoX this Sunday and had a blast! This is something I think I could really get into, especially since most of the events are only 4 miles from my house at a place called the EVO center (You like that name LEVIII?). It's where the cops train and practice high speed maneuvers and stuff. Emergency Vehicle Operation center.
The guy who registered me put me in the wrong class I think. He put me in "D" street prepared with Si's with full suspension and who knows what under the hood. I got smoked. I think I should have been in STS. I checked the times for STS and I would have been right in the thick of things and near the top in the "Novice" class.
Oh well, I improved my time on every run. I dont' know if these times will mean anything because I dont' know if all the tracks are different but on the first run I was pretty nervous/excited. I didn't want to run off the course or destroy too many cones so I played it kinda safe to get to know the track and what my car could/couldn't do... 53 seconds. the 2nd one I opened it up a little and stayed on the throttle a little longer going into the turns... 51.5 sec. 3rd run I stayed in 2nd gear the whole way instead of forcing it back into 1st in a couple of tight corners... 51 flat. Last run I had a passenger and squealed and screeched a little more...50 flat. Sweet.
I videoed it but recently discovered that there was virtually no way to get it from the camera to the computer. Watching the video it looks like a Sunday drive, but it's anything but a Sunday drive. I took one from inside the car and you get a lot better feel for what's going on.
If you've never been to one or run in one, I highly recommend it. 1/4 miles are fun in a straight line, but much more fun in an AutoX. Funny how my goal in building the Civic was to get down to Mustang times; well, there were a couple of Mustangs out there and you guessed it... the Ex was triumphant.

You need a "Video Capture Card". Different types, depending on what type of camera you have (mini DV, DV, DVD, or older type).
I download my mini DV to my computer, edit it with Pinnacle Studio 9, then burn it to DVD.
i knew you'd be addicted once you got out there. and you got ripped off being in DSP. that is WAY off. STS or maybe even STX would have been more competitive. but its not like you expect to win anything the first season anyway. im glad you had fun, and i cant wait to see a vid. even though it DOES look slow. thats always bothered me too.
