Just bought a 95 DX with no stereo. Went to Wally World and bought the cheapest one they had. I have spent to hours trying to get power to the stereo, with no success.........I know the stereo works because I tried it straight from the battery. Please help the new Civic owner!!!!

Did you buy a kit with an adapter or are you just cutting and splicing?

Couple of possibilities here. Do the clock and dome light still work? If they don't, you may have blown a fuse. You should really invest 5 bucks into a test light so you know if a wire is hot or grounded. Check all of your fuses just to be sure.

The other thing, and this is probably it, is that the head unit (stereo) needs what's called a chassis ground. The antenna usually provides this but just to be safe try running a wire from the metal part of the head unit to a ground on the car.

Yeah. if you bought the wiring kit it is easy to just match colors.

If not make sure you have power to power and ground to ground. If so check the fuses under the hood and under the dash.

Please tell me you got the harness. You can solder and shrink tube at your workbench or desk in comfort and without worrying about dropping the soldering iron on your carpet. Then you just plug it in.

If you or the previous owner already hacked the wiring you are going to need a logic probe or test light.
If you don't have or can't afford a decent logic probe at least get a cheap 1.99 test light

If you've done everything right and get power but no sound you're probably going to need new speakers. I think the foam surround on a Honda/Pioneer speakers average life span is about 5 years.

ALLLLRIIIIGHHTTYYY... i need to say somethin that iv been viewin in the last few deck forums..most new wiring kits have lables on each wire. Considering that there are times.."matching colors" wont work... an unexperienced person is gonna have no clue what to do. Look on the wires and you will find like a silverish text that tells u what it is and + or - for such things needed.

with that said..when u tested it to the batt..the unit came on right...but now ur saying that the unit wont come on when u hook it up..which means that the speakers have nothin to do with that problem.
