Default Muffler!?!

Hey all, I am a new civic owner and desperately want to get rid of the pea shooter of a muffler that came stock on my car. I have an '02 EX 2dr and want to install JUST a muffler (Not a whole exhaust sytstem...if I don;t have to). Any tips on brands or types of mufflers that might increase perfomrance but wont sound or look rediculous (ie. a fartbox that everyone puts on their cars these days). Any tips or ideas will be greatly appreaciated. Also, I wanna try to keep cost low, so any references would be awesome. Thanks!

u will not find anything within your description for cheap. I'm thinking of mufflers by supersprint, remus, etc.

low cost usually = "ricey"
hell, even the more expensive mufflers are taking the form of the "ricer fartcan"...but anymore, i see those types of mufflers on everything from civics to cobras...so it doesnt bother me any...people who make fun of others cars because of the type of muffler are insecure douchrockets anyway.

thanks for the advice....I am trying to stay away from "ricey." The way I figure...I'd like to have a fast car, but no matter how much money I put in (unless its a significant amount, in which case I would have bought a better car to start with) I will still have a civic with less that 150hp. I just wanted a muffler that looks less like a pea shooter, and may offer a better sound or performance. What would I have to spend to get what Im looking for? And...if I did go ricey...any moderate "fartcans" that isn;t quite overboard with the sound?

here is something to think about...have you ever seen a very fast import racer that didnt have loud exhaust? there may be some, but for the most part, it has loud exhaust...this "fart can" nonsense came about from V8 morons who are tired of getting beat in the bends by a 150hp civic...V8 owners will always make fun of import owners for the exhaust sound because no matter how fast a car is with a 4 cylinder, or 6 cylinder, it will never sound like a V8...i laugh at people who talk about how vipers sound "ricey" because they have a unique sound..

screw what other people think...find a muffler that you like for the look and sound.

keep in mind that muffler alone will not result in HP increase

Muffler only will not give you HP, but if you just want the sound go for a turboback muffler. Will give you a low throaty sound, but dont expect v8 stuff here. And its not a 4 cylinder car sound, because I'v seen domestics without that "rice" sound. Its a uniquity to Honda due to the high revving engine. It makes a high pitch whine to begin with and if you amplify that.

just keep it small. u go huge and u get the annoying ass whine. believe me, i kno haha. if all u care about is looks u could just get a muffler tip. if u get the right kind it can look good. tahts the cheapest u can get.

but once u can afford it, full exhasut would be better
