Hi,
I bought a 2000 4 dr LX Sedan last Sat. I was wondering if it is possible to add keyless entry to it? I believe some people on this forum have tried before. I will appreciate any inputs. Thanks.
Yes you can, but its going to have to be aftermarket.
If your car already has power locks it will run about $100.
It will be alot more without power locks.
All you need is the remote, the LX has the whole system already. Go on eBay, find a remote for 99-00 civics then program it. Programming is really easy, there's instructions all over the place.
or you can go to your local honda dealer and you can buy a remote off of them, and get them to program it if you have a problem doing it yourself, i dont think its expensive at all if you got the system already, i got a acura remote programmed to my keyless
Thanks a lot Guys. You have been very helpful. I do have power locks on doors, power windows, power mirrors, etc. I guess Ebay is best place. How much does a dealer cost any idea? Is it too difficult to program an off-market keyless device? I am just worried as there won't be any money back guarantee-kind of thing.
I am not sure if my 2000 LX Honda Civic has the keyless system INBUILT in it.
amg6975: Can you please confirm for me that LX models does not need anything other than the remote ONLY for the keyless system to work. The remote keys are going about $10-20 on ebay which is quite cheap. Hence, I am not so sure. It seems to be too simple. Am I missing some thing?
I have a friend that has a 00 LX and all he had to get was the remote. I guess it's the same system that controls the power windows or something. It's definitely already in your car.

Thanks again.
No problem.
I am suprised that it is as easy as that.
If its so cheap and easy to do than why dont all Civics have it stock?
It would definatley increase dealer value of the car.
