1990 civic wire colors

hi,
ive got a 1990 honda civic and i was wondering if anyone has the wire colors needed to install a new deck.
I have looked on google and i have found generic honda ones: black = ground, white/blue = yellow and Ignition = yellow/red.
I have tried them and the stereo still doesnt work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trevor.

heres a easy way to find your speaker wires. Its an old trick in the book straight from a local car audio shop. Take a drill battery and touch it to the ends of the speaker wires, whichever speaker pops, find the location and mark it down.

THose colors are correct.

Check your fuses!!!

you have a fuse for the stereo under the dash and another one under the hood. The one under the dash is prob marked stereo or radio but the one under the hood is more then likely not marked but it should be somewhere between a 7.5 and a 15.

i checked the one under the dash but i havent checked the one under the hood, all my interior lights work and my clock ect so thats why i dont really think its a fuse..

Have you tested the wires?

WIth a test light or a meter to make sure you have the right ones (power has power, ground has ground) hooked up.

When Honda is building cars and they run out of white with a blue tracer wire you better belive they dont stop production, the just throw something else in until they get the right color back in.

And I've run across cars where the wire went bad so I had to find a diffrent one to tap into.

When testing take the neg clip it to a bolt or some kind of medal. (this is for test light.)
Then make sure your car is off. touch every wire with the pos side test light. When the light turns on that is your 12v constant.(goes to the yellow wire) now mark that wire.
Turn on your car and repeat touching every wire till thelight turns on. Then turn off your car. If the light turns off that is switched power. (that goes to the red wire)
Ok now hook your pos lead from test light to the 12v constant and touch the other wires untill the light turns on. when it turns on turn on your car if light stays on that should be ground. (that goes to black.)

Ok with thoughs three wires hooked up your cd player should come on. If not Kiss your CD Player good bye.
If it does work then reffer to the speaker finding battery tester that Remington was talking about. You can also use a 9volt battery to pop the speakers if you don't have a drill battery.
