2006 Civic EX XM radio question
Just purchased an 06 civic EX and really want XM, but do not want the wires dangling and an extra screen mounted somewhere. I really wanted to get it installed with the car at the dealership but they wanted $1000!!!! the EX with navigation (xm-included) was only $1600 more, so I couldn't believe the price and they wouldn't haggle on it.
Since the radio is XM-ready, I'm assuming it just needs a (proprietary) tuner and antenna to work. It's gotta be less than $100 in parts, I was prepared to pay a markup, expecting it to cost as much as $500, but at $1000 I just couldn't pull the trigger.
Anyways my question is this--can i purchase the OEM parts online or somewhere else and install it myself, or pay a local shop to do it, I'm sure the install would cost like $100 at most.

Hey whats up. Yeah you can buy the factory adapters now but they still cost about $300 or so retail. I haven't had the chance to installl one yet ( I work at a car audio shop) but I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to put it in. Try asking one of your local audio shops and see what they have to say or if anyone has done it yet
hey thanks for the reply. i found what i needed online, you need the xm box (200), mounting kit or whatever ($40) and the antenna (100+!!) from the installation guide the antenna looks like the regular xm antennas tehay all use (which is $25), you wouldnt happen to know if i could just get a regular antenna do you?
