Default 2012 Civic and Android Phone

Hi All -- I'm new here. Just bought a 2012 Civic hybrid and was surprised that I couldn't play a newer Android phone via the Aux cable (it says 'there's no paired phone'), and I can't pair the phone (when I go thru the pairing process, neither the phone nor the car recognizes the other). I don't even need the USB connection, which seems to also have problems. Is there any way to (1) use the Aux cable and (2) pair the phone ?

Thanks very much in advance.

Doh! Before anyone spends any time on this -- the problem was this. I had the wrong "data entry" button. Didn't realize the **** (which rotates) is the selection mechanism -- by pressing it in. The little graphic in the owner's manual is ambiguous -- at least it was to me. I was pressing the button above it. Problem solved. Pairing was easy. Happy ending.
