amp install 2008 honda civic
I just recently bought a new 2008 honda civic and am installing my amp and subwoofer from my previous car and was curious if anyone knows the best way to run the power cable from the amp to the battery. I couldnt really find any easy access under the dash on the driver side so if anyone knows any way about that i would apreciate it very much. Thank you.

ok wait do you have an aftermarket head unit to plug the amp into? and there is a grommet hidden in there pull off the pannel under the steering wheel and youll see it.

I'm not familiar with the 2008's but on the 99 there is a gromet on the battey side (passenger side) against the firewall.

no i do not have a aftermarket head unit. do i need to get one and how does it work?
thanks for the advice on the hidden grommet too. |
RE: amp install 2008 honda civic
The aftermarket headunitis needed to plug in the RCA cables (as well as the Remote turn on wire) so that you can get the actually sound to the subwoofers.
So yes you do need to get an aftermarket head unit. HOWEVER, I have heard of someone wiring up subwoofers using the stock radio, but it didn't really sound/work outthat great from what I gathered. |
RE: amp install 2008 honda civic
ok so i went out and purchased a high line inverter, that should workright? i just use that and splice my speaker line so i can hook up the rca cables to the amp without having to put an aftermarket deck in?

RE: amp install 2008 honda civic
yea that works but u'llalso have tohook upyour remote wire from ur amp. You need to hook it up to the some kind of ignition powerbut make sure u dont hook it up to a constant or u'll end up with a dead battery.I dont kno about the 2008 so i couldn't tell u the color of wire but some1 might b able to tell u.

RE: amp install 2008 honda civic
is it possible to wire it to a fuse in the fuse box that loses power when the car turns off?

RE: amp install 2008 honda civic
You can do w/e you want
but the stock radio also has a blue remote wire behind it my issue with this whole thing is, if the car is a 2008, you really, really should not be doing it yourself Even I, have installed in over 100 cars in my audio life (of four years or so) and would never touch certain cars, a honda I wouldn't do past 2005, etc. Reason being, newer cars have way more security features, and a check engine light can go on for just about anything Since you don't seem to know where to run the power cable, or that your stock HU doesn't have RCA, you're either joking about this thread or attempting something you shouldn't, no offense Yeah I do encourage trying things out on your own, but not a brand new car. If you're not a professional, I highly recommend NOT doing your own install |
RE: amp install 2008 honda civic
You don't have to use RCA cables (don't need aftermarket headunit) IF your amp has line level inputs (like my alpine amps), you just run the stock speaker wires into the line level input of the amp and then run the outputs from the amp to the speaker. But for someone like you who doesn't know a ton about car audio or wiring, I would definately get help from someone who knows more or get it installed somewhere.
