^ Yes it would. Unless a coil is blown, or a somehow a voice coil isn't wired up. Then you'd definitely have a problem. Testing directly at the sub's terminals is the way to go.

i tested resistance just from back of my sub box and it read about 5.8. i only have one sub

Sorry....so it's most likely a dual 2 ohm. which means you just wire it up to the amp and bridge the channels

idk how its wired i bought it from some guy and i didnt feel like taking it apart to see what ohm it is.

Does the exact output really matter? Why don't you just hook it up and adjust the gain so that the signal doesn't clip.

You won't need to much gain if you don't seriously upgrade your mids and tweets, so don't worry about.

The amp should say xxxxWatts peak output. multiply that number by .707 and thats how many Watts RMS. As for the amount of Watts at a particular amount of ohms it depends on the sub, the way the sub is wired, and the number of subs you have. If you're having problems understanding or more questions check 12volt.com they have wiring diagrams and awesome explanations.
