Amp wiring gone wrong
I bought my 99 Civic VP about two months ago and since then have changed out my headunit and front speakers. Running a JVC RD-R600 headunit with Polk 6.5'' 2 ways up front and Pioneer 6x9'' 3 ways in back.
The guy who owned the car before me (never met him, bought as is at dealership) left all of the amp wires he had but he had the stock headunit. It looks like he ran the blue power lead for the amp into an empty fuse slot underneath the driver side dash. Is this a bad thing? Im going to be getting an amp soon and want to know if i should leave it or move it... Also, when i wired my headunit in the blue/white power antenna turn-on (adapter side) wire was connected to the solid blue power antenna wire (stock side). Did i screw up? |

the blue wire is the remote turn on wire. which you can hook it up to anything that has power with the car on and not powered when the key is off. its not to important BUT if you get a aftermarket radio then i would hook up that blue wire to the aftermarket radios remote turn on output wire. there is 2 blue wires so be sure you connect to the right one. one blue with white wire I THINK is the power antena wire... which only has power when the radio is selected and it runs off if you use a cd or ipod... ect.
and some radios have a delayed turn on which is better for the amplifier since you dont have that initial turn on THUMP. |
thanks guys

Definitely use the remote hookup on the back of the aftermarket headunit, makes things much easier when swapping headunits later or removing it to factory. If it's wired to the fuse box, make sure you get a test light like others mentioned before.

haha well ill have to see what i can do, the blue wire that my instructions say to use is already connected, there isnt two blue at all...maybe ill just leave it for now..

do you have the manual for it? and it is RD? or KD?
|
well low brand radios dont always have 2 remote turn on wires. some have the power antena and some dont.
|
Yeah, but most do. I just replaced a ~10-15yr(?) jensen radio from my dad's truck my old sony unit and it even had a remote and power antenna (even though the truck had neither, lol).
