blown subs??
 

so i had just replaced my powerwire and fuse holder a few weeks ago because it overheated/melted, then a few days ago everything was goin good, i disconnected my subs from the amp and ran a new wire to test out some other subs and when i wired mine back up they didnt work :( i checked all the wires,the fuses even ran new wires from the subs to my amp but still doesnt work. when i hook up the other speakers they work fine. anythought what it could be. anyway i can test my subs? i have 2 12" fosgate punchs and a alpine 450 amp. tks

well one way you can kinda feel is if you push down on the cone and you get any kind of resistance and its not smooth then usually somethings wrong with the sub....you might not have a big enough fuse,and do you have your settings on your amp ALL the way up???

Nothing at all comes through the subs? not even a faint hiss or a low tone? what size wire and fuse are you running? just curious..

Use a volt ohm meter, and check the impedance on the subs voice coils. If you get some REAL wild numbers..... you toasted yer subs

You should get the impedience that it is rated at. Say if you have 4 ohm voice coils... you should get right around 4 ohms.

Check wiring inside the box to the subs themselves... and to the connectors inside the box, sounds like something came loose to me... you would get noise even from a blown sub.

when i push the sub down there is no resistance, i think there is a 40 A fuse in it and i checked it and it was fine. all the setting are all the way up

no hiss low tone or nothing. not shure what gage wire but it is pretty big
its not that cuz i re ran all the wires from the sub to amp
no i tested it with my friends subs and they work fine
ill test the subs tomarrow when i can use a voltmeter

I would say something in your subs is loose, you would hear something is they were blown. see if u can find someone else whos can test them...

well if your settings on your amp are all the way up then i would say that has ALOT to do with it...some subs will bypass all that dirty signal your sending from the amps but the better subs will not do that and you will damage then FAST!!!....i bet if you turned your settings down to half that or even all the way down and worked your way up i bet they would work...im not saying thats gonna be whats wrong but im thinking it is.Plus that amp cant be putting out that much power with just a 40 amp fuse.
