Default Box for my subs

Alright I have 2 10inch Infinity Kappas. They are pretty old but still work so I am gonna keep them. I want to make a new box for them. The box they are in now is a bandpass box and it is HUGE! I am trying to save some trunk space and make just a sealed box.

I have an idea for a box but I thought I would ask if there was some big key things to know about making boxes before I just pieceing wood together.

Any paticular size I have to have it? Or anything I heard getting fiber-fil and putting it in there will help a smaller box seem bigger.

Also as of now I have one of those super awful brand subs to power these guys I was wondering if you have any amps you would suggest to power them? I am not looking for to much I just want some bass back there.

Lastly I just bought some of those eclipse speakers for my car should I run those off the headunit or get a 4 channel amp for those? And should I rerun the wires going to the speakers and use something bigger?

Use these to calculate the size box you need. HERE

This site also has alot of great info on all things audio.HERE

As far as an amp to push them, I would check out these:

HERE
and
HERE

I would get a 4-channel amp for your other speakers, and run all new wire to all of them. However, you may not wwant to do that. If you are not really into your system, just keep them running off the head unit.

Good luck.

Well I was thinking about running all new wire just because I am going to have everything out of my car at some point ( carpets and everything) so I thought I might as well. What gauge should I use for those though? And how do you do the doors? Is there a place to run the wire into?

Thanks for the sites I am about to look at them.

For the speakers I would run 16ga. As far as getting them into your doors, be prepared for a battle. It is really hard to get the wire into the doors. Some people say to use a really long zip tie and fish it throught the grommet: Here is a picture of what it looks like:

This is it inside the door

This is it going from the door to the body of the car

Use the chart on the12volt.com to find out what size power and ground wire to run to the amps. You dont want to use too small of a wire for them.

Good luck, keep us posted and feel free to PM me if you have an questions.

Don't buy a 2 channel amp for your subs. Buy a mono block class d amp for them. Something from Eclipse, Alpine, Orion, or another reputable brand.
Are they single 4 ohm, dual 4, or dual 2 ohm speakers?
What is their RMS rating?

It's usually a good idea to run atleast 4g. power/ground into a distributer, then 8g. from that to your amps (since you're planning on getting 2 amps, this would be the easiest way to wire both of them.

Look up info for your speakers at Crutchfield, Infinity, or another website and they will list the recommended sealed box volume. You'll want to build a sealed box with that exact same internal volume for the subs to perform their best.

Good 4 channel amp will make those Eclipse speakers come to life. Again, just get something that is close to the same RMS rating as the speakers from a reputable company (Eclipse is very very good). And it's definitely a good idea to run new wires through the doors.

Lastly, it's not really a good idea to run all of this stuff off of a puny stock alternator. More than likely, it won't be able to power both amps properly resulting in dimming head lights, rough idle, and your alt. will crap out quickly.

oh damn didnt even think about the alternator. Is there any good ones I can buy on ebay? What should I be looking for? And you think I should just get the mono class d amp and ran the power to both subs?

Look for a high output alt. for your car. I'm sure the stock one puts out less than 90amps. I would not go lower than 120... 160 would probably be a nice/very safe choice. However, you could try hooking it all up and see how everything goes. It shouldn't draw enough power to kill your alt really fast or anything bad like that.
Also, Kenetik makes these amazing batteries that you just replace your stock bat. with. I haven't personally tried one, but I know a guy that ran his CRX in the world finals with two L7's (powered off something with ~1,500 RMS@2ohm) that uses a very large Kenetik battery with a small 110 amp (I think...) alt. and it does great no sign of strain on any parts of the electrical system. - so Kenetik's obviously done something right.

Oh, another thing you'll want to do (I know, it keeps going on and on... Car audio is like that. Expensive and never ending.) is the Big 3 upgrade. You'll want to upgrade the ground wires with bigger, better quality wires on the power wire from alt to battery, ground from alt to chassis, and the ground from batt to chassis.
