Default Cruise Control

I have a 98 DX without cruise control. I do a lot of interstate driving, and after driving my dad's chevy with it, I want it. Could I pull the wires/buttons/computer from a wrecked one, or would I have to do something extreme like change the main wiring harness.

Thanks in advance

I don't have specific answers to your questions, but the diagram below gives you a sense about most components that you'll need to collect from a junked Civic. I believe that components from any 96-00 Civic would work.

I don't think a DX wiring harness has any of the wires for cruise control. You could look for unconnected plugs near where the cruise components would mount.

There are also aftermarket cruise control kits that fit any car, with varying degrees of success.

Actually the DX motor doesn't have the hook up for the cruse control.....I put a DX motor in an LX and found that out. Although if there's a way to get it to work, please tell me!

Do you have the vacuum line hooked from the intake manifold to the vacuum tank for the cruise actuator under the hood? You may need to tee it into one of the other lines if there isn't a fitting on the manifold dedicated for it. Otherwise just changing the engine shouldn't matter. The cruise control parts are all connected to the car harness. The actuator cable goes to the gas pedal, not the engine.

The hook up you need is sold throught Rostra. Part Number 250-4249 should fit your car.

ya to add it to a DX theres alot of parts you have to swap!
dash harness completly and posibly the engine harness and intake to a Y8 i think.

i thought about it myself but shortly after inspecting a parts car civic I GAVE UP FAST.... you could try one of those aftermarket cruise control units i guess. i don tthink they are that great but its something....
so far i havent done any road trips with the dx yet only short road trips which are not to bad for no cruise control.
i wish someone would do a DIY aftermarket cruise control.
its not to important to me since if i do a road trip its for parts and i use my truck for that.

Then you must be using a really cheap aftermarket cruise.

Please use the Audiovox 250-1223 or the Rostra 250-1316. I have installed well over 1000 of these units over the past 20 years and no customer complaints.
These units work flawlessly
