What I would do is scuff it up lightly with a scotchbrite pad (multipurpose) then thouroughly wash in soap & water, rinse and let it completly dry. For painting Id spray with Krylon fusion. Id spray 3 light coats then let paint cure for 3 days. Then Id give it a clearcoat, the first coat being an extremly light coat followed by 3 light coats. Then let cure for 2-3 days before install.

That is a clean head unit. I say go with Krylon Fusion using the method kamlooper described... the after pic looks good. JVC makes high quality, long lasting products. All my decks and CD changers have been JVC. Nothing but good things to say about them... never let me down.

As for the deck Id say its kickass. My Sony mp3 is getting a little old and Ive been waiting for a newer one to come out in the lower price range that reads dvd's. But Id have to say the usb input really looks like the next big thing.
Almost evertime I pick up an electronics flyer theres a new deck replacing the last one I seen

it's the JVC KDG720 and it's fresh...lol.

here's some pics before I started work on my trim plate. BTW, the gloss paint i got was TOO glossy. I'm gonna get some "hammered" matt black paint tomorrow and try that instead.
