Default Head unit install

So im going to install a new head unit and front speakers, but what I cant figure out is how to get my old stock cassette player out. The car is a 1994 civic cx hatch, and the stock unit has no visble screws on its face, do I just pop the unit out, and disconnect the wires behind it? Please someone help as I would like to do this tommorow, I just dont want to ruin anything.[:@] Thanks for any advice!

Yank that bad boy out. J/P
there should be some screws on the bottom and the side of the ashtray thingy. take those out and see what happens.

idk what its like on 94. but on my 96 ex.. you need to remove the panel underneath the head unit just in front of the shifter (and removing that panel requires removing the one below the steering wheel. its like 8 screws or something and they pop right off. once you get those off. there should be 2 screws holding the stock head unit into place. take those out and it should just slide right out. like i said. thats how it is on 96. but the civic changed between 94 and 96 so idk what its gunna be like for you.
if you still have questions in the morning when you try it.. take some pictures of what everything looks like so we can point you in the right direction. sometimes its just easier to be able to see it. because most of us dont have 94 hatches. lol.

and be sure to post pics of the new HU when you get it in.

ahhh.. i've been through so many head units... but. if you set it up right (read: use long enough wires).. you wont have to take off the panel under it every time you want to take out the head unit (I didnt do this...l just wish i didnt have to take it out every time). just take out the ash tray and unscrew the screw on each side and it comes off (on my 94 coupe.. pretty much the same inside.. so i assume thats all you gotta do.. since.. the stock HU probably dosent have long enough wires to just pull out.... but ya. just take off the surround.. if it has one and pull it out if stock one dosent have keys)

thanks guys for all the help, i just brought home the stuff i ordered, the list is as follows: alpine DVA9861 head unit( i figured i go good quality now i wont have to upgrade for a while) front speakers and the amp and sub woofers will come later when i can afford, plus i think my car only has front stock speakers no rears? My plan is to mount 2 alpine subs in the hatch by mocking up a toneau cover type of enclosure courtesy of speedtechracing and mounting then on top http://www.speedtechracing.com/home.php anyone that lives near calgary should check this place out, they import jdm parts, engine, engine swaps, all kinds of tires and wheels, etc. anyways, ill post some pics once i get a camera and let u know how the install goes!
