the max wattage doesn't mean crap. just what the stereo will put out during a BRIEF burst, won't hold that wattage for more than a split second at a time.

Default RE: head unit wattage?

well im not an expert by any means but i dabble in A/V in cars a little. The Pioneer is a GREAT in dash but you'll run into the same problem people have when they want quantity. Ill give you a quick overview. Headunits have very low RMS for those that dont mind having mediocre sound quality, but with highend headunits the have low RMS because they are designed to be conected to Amps. If you get that headunit just get a decent Amp and make sure that the RMS/channel of the Amp is more of the RMS of your speakers. the reason i say this is because you can always turn down the the power of the Amp when you set it all up. But in the event you get an underpowered Amp your soundwaves will Clip when you turn your volume up. that will leave you with messed up speakers. so ultimately all you need is a decent 4 channel amp and you will be enjoying your music. if you need any clarification just let me know. i know i ramble alotl. good luck
