Hookin up an Amp..
 

Well i got a Pioneer deck, and im trying to hook up a 600 watt amp .
wat exactly do i need to do?
I know im gonna need some RCA cables, hook em up to the back of my stereo,
run them down to my trunk. pull a cable from my battery to my trunk. (positive terminal.. using a fuse.) and is that all? just hook all that up to my amp?

or am i missing something?
what do i gotta do so the amp wont be running all the time...?
im not tryign to cough up 70 bones to have it installed at Best Buy lol....\

.... yeah i know i need to ground too lol.

a little blue wire called a rem or remote running from the cd player to the amp

1) power wire from battery with correct size fuse
2) remote wire from remote turn on of radio (usually blue/white) to remote input of amp
3) ground directly to body of car within 2 or 3 feet max from the amp. make sure to scrape off the paint where you screw it down
4) RCA from radio to amp
5) speaker wire from amp to sub (make sure that the sub(s) are wired to an ohm load that is stable on your amp)

good luck. Civics are probably one of the easier cars to do your first amp on.

and a friend told me that the remote wire is red from radio? and that yellow is main power or something?

down below the battery there is a pretty big rubber boot where the engine harness runs through. i simply cut a small slit with a knife and ran the wire through the boot. To be 100% sure that no water comes through I also sealed the hole with some silicone. but if the hole is not bigger than it needs to be, that may not be completely necessary. then just run it under the carpet and panels to the amp location

and the red wire is the ignition wire that tells the radio to turn on when the car comes on. The blue/white is the remote turn on output of the radio that is there to tell amps when to turn on. So if your radio has the blue/white wire use that, if not then red would be the next best thing.

oh and also DO NOT hook the remote wire to a solid blue wire at the radio. If your radio has a solid blue, it is a power antenna output. which means if you hook into this, the amps will only turn on when the radio is on the tuner, but not any other source. just fyi

P.S. The Fuse MUST be as close to the battery as possible, if not you could have a short (in case of a failure of course) and cause either and engine compartment fire, or one inside the cabin.

Your also going to have to think about power consumption, Just remember for car amps, divide the wattage by 12 and you get how many amps your pulling, with a little 600 you should be fine on the factory alternator, but if you have your headlights on, stereo up, fan/ A/C on, your going to be pulling alot of power that your alternator may not keep up with. For your setup, you should be ok. But people pulling a stupid amount of power (IE 1000 Watts + ) should seriously look into getting a new alternator.

and she sounds wayyyy better than before lol.
now i just need some of that dynomat? or whatever its called lol.

oh and do you guys have anything underneath your license plate to stop it from shaking? i think i might put a piece of rubber or something lol

just buy a amplifier install kit. you can buy them just about any autoparts store... autozone, pepboys, walmart, advance... blablabla if you ever think youll upgrade your stereo just go ahead and buy a 4gauge kit. 4gauge kit is good for about 1200-1500watts. if you dont ever plan on going more than 600watts go ahead and get the tiny 8gauge kit.

dynamat would help, under my license plate i put these round rubber grommets that i bought from home depot under each of the screws holding mine on and bam no more rattling
