how can i get rid of my cap???
so ive had my cap now for about 5yrs and ive always kept it cause....umm i dont know i just have. Now my music is starting to cut out and i think the cap might be the problem...it looks like its going bad and the wires that are on one of the post like the plastic around it looks all brittle and kinda burnt...it just doesnt look right. So what all can i do to take the cap off and make everything right.I dont know what i would do with the wires that are on the cap now....like would i have to get a ditro block now or could i just splice them together or something???
or should i just get another cap and put it in and call it good???....and yes i know i really dont need one.

Look up a thing called a batcap. it is like a mini batter that will do what 100 1 farad caps will do. Caps are largely pointless though and just a bandaid on a large cut
well like i said i know that i really dont need one but the way my wires are setup it would alot easier just to get a new one and replace it.I would have to redo wires and my grounds and stuff if i went another route so i dont know yet it could just need some cleaning.

Take a pic of your set up.
well first off.... check all your connections for a loose one.... even if the cap is bad it shouldnt hurt the system and make them cut out....
check your ground wires and tighten up those terminals on the cap and amplifier...
over time screws can get loose... make sure they are all good and tight rust/corosion free conetions...
and if the problem is still thier... just remove the cap
simply unscrew the positive conection and tape up that wire like a **** and same to the ground and just slap em to the side.... OR if your using that cap as a distrro block then with a TWO bolt and nuts simply bolt the 2 wires together for each terminal. and again use electrical tape all over them like a ****.... and just slap em to the side.... ya realy only have to tape up the power wire but for consistency i always do both
and if the problem still is thier then its not the cap...
BUT me personaly id leave that crap outta.... like another guy said if ANYTHING use a batcap battery back thier.... ive heard good things around thier smaller battcaps BUT ive also heard that thier terminals if tightened to much will snap like a toothpick!
edit you might wanna also change the fuses on the main power and the amps....
i had a old main fuse conection in my truck awhile ago to extend my 4gauge power wire alittle more to the amp... i even tho that sucker worked good when i put it in.... sometimes if i hit a bump the amp would cut out... realy pissing me off... took me forever to figure out that SOMEHOW that fuse must be broken way back inside it which when it hit a bump it would move and disconect itself..... fuse looked perfect! swaped it with a new fuse and it never cut out on me again...

o DAM..... ya id say your cap is bad...... its GOTTA BE leaking to corode and melt the wiring like that!!!!!
you might even have to run some larger wires... cause most wires shouldnt melt like that unless ya have a short or pulling WAY to much power thru that smaller wire!
HOW MUCH POWER YA GOT PUSHEN FROM YOUR AMPS? and what size wire is that?
id say ya defintly need to upgrade your wires!
tho that cap definatly has to be leaking to corode the wires like that.....
