Default How do you install your own alarm?

Ok, I am good with stereos, but when it comes to a full out alarm wiring event, I am lost.

I recently purchased a little alarm with keyless and remote start, but the amount of wiring it contained was hideous, and I got rid of it just last month because I was afraid to even attempt it.

I guess my question is pretty simple, how hard is it to install those things.

I am thinking about investing in some decently priced standard alarm w/keyless, installing actuators *which I think i can manage myself* and hooking it all up right. Is there a walkthrough someplace that shows an idiot what to do?

I am afraid to start splicing into wires if I don't have to, and cutting up factory harnesses that I am unsure about. Things like parking light flashers and etc, I don't know if I can just solder the alarm's wire to the normal parking light flasher relay wire, or if I have to start cutting and crimping stuff.

If anyone's done it, and has some good advice, I could use some sort of a how to. I will probably get a pretty simple system, thats not packed to the gills with wiring, something 60.00 or less, just enough to deter the local morons from ripping my rims off.

Thanks in advance and all that :-)

So when the alarm diagram says, hook wires XY up to parking light's, I just directly solder them onto the parking light relay wires?

same with pretty much eveything else, Doors, power, etc..

I will probably do a cheaper end keyless/alarm. Don't need remote start, afraid I will fry my car somehow, Ican see it happening.

i recomend getting i mainstream version, because as you know, some of the off brand models dont have the best worded instructions, but onw you get past that youll be fine

here is a link to the wire colors and locations for ur car, i used the same site for my install

Is there a site out there that offers buy now deals on the directed brands, i.e Python, Viper, etc..

I might like to install my own low end viper or python, don't want anything too cheap, but I want reliability. I hear some of these systems just go off for no damn reason, and I am not much on that. I would rip it out if it did that all the time. Just want some minor shock protection that would at least notice the car being jacked up and someone ripping my rims off.

if ya want to protect your rims then you need a add on tilt sensor.... that way with it added to your alarm system if someone tries to jack up your car to get the rims off it will sense the angle degree being changed and will set the alarm off...

i havent put one on my civic yet BUT with my new rims i definatly will! will also protect your car alittle more from towing theft also......

and with conecting the wires you can use the simple crimp onto the wire conection.... they have some now that aqre actualy preaty good for those smaller wires...
best part about them as well as you can remove the wires cleanly....
its not those cheap conectors that just cut into the stock wire and your additional wire.... they cut into the stock wire and then have a insulated spade terminal plug on the one end.... they are what id sugest.... then just crimp the spade conector onto the alarms wire and plug it in.....

only wires i ever solder is very important wires... like for some newer cars antitheft devices like PASSLOC or other crapy factory alarm systems.LOL

alarms can be very intemidating when looken at them and the instructions!!!!!!!
but believe me.. its realy not to hard.... just remember NOT EVERY WIRE IS USED!!!!!!!! dont be afraid to cut half the wires off and no use them!
they usualy come with alot of triggers inputs... some for negative triggers... some from positive triggers...

just read your car wiring info first and work off them to the alarms instructions....
and TEST EVERY WIRE before ya hook into it!!!! a simple 12volt light tester is all thats needed for most the wires.... it may take awhile to test the wires BUT youll be sure they are right! and after ya get it all done test every door, trunk, hood, blablabla and be sure they are protected and most importantly to me.... SET YOUR SHOCK SENSOR PROPERLY!!!!! dont just crank it to full... youll **** people off EVERYWHERE YA ARM IT and yourself at home with the false triggers!

hardest wiring i always have is finding the stupid power lock wires! every car i do is a pain!!!!

Well, locks are a plus for me, because I am installing the actuators myself. So they have like 1 blue and 1 green wire, that i will run through the doors. Pretty much, all I will be using remotely is the doors and basic alarm function arm/disarm. I might get a trunk popper later, but for now I just want keyless and some basic protection.

So I guess the only things that will really be plugged in are the parking light flash relays, the doors, and the siren, and power and grounds and all that stuff. I don't have a use for the other inputs at this time, lol.

I am kind of hoping it will be simple since I am lacking so many of the actuators most cars have.

i have this one that i got off ebay, for 65 bucks total that i put actuators in with
the cool part about it is that it had built in relays for everything, for the door locks and starter disable and stuff also

the instructions were kind of vague but i've done it and could help out
