Default need help, i don't like to listen to wind

ok like three days ago i got my alpine type r's in and working fine. 6x9 in the back and 6.5 in front. again they were working fine, side note no amp on them yet. after in stalling the crossover, i noticed i used to long of screws so the window bracket hit so i didn't use the window and then today i cut the screws down and done, window works. now i hopped in to go for a ride and listen to some music and they work for about 30 second then the left front tweeter started to crackle so i shut off the head unit. i turned it back on and same thing, then the other front started to crackle. i turned it off again and then back on, now nothing, then got music for about 10 seconds, then nothing at all.

a couple of weeks ago my ipod which i have hooked up in the glove box battery died, the head unit is supposed to charge it so i was thinking something was up, brought it inside, charged it, worked fine again, stayed charged.

thinking the ipod might have something to do with it cause that happened, i took the head unit out, checked the wires just to make sure they look good and are all connected, they are.

if i turn up the head unit loud i can hear all the speakers crackle but no music, no matter radio, ipod. i did not get to try a cd yet, i dont have any, will try tomorrow and see.

i have no idea what is up? it is weird that all the speakers dont work, i had the rear 6x9's in about 2 weeks before the front and they worked so i would think that they would work if something about the wiring with the front speakers are messed up but again they worked fine as well. i did take out the screws in one of the crossover to shorten them and i dont believe that i messed any of the wires on it but if i did wouldn't the other speakers still work?? could i have blown a fuse somewhere? i checked the one on the back of the head unit, looks good but i will replace it tomorrow just to double check.

sorry for the long post but the more info the easier it is to help me out, thanks for any help, i hate no music. and i have only had to do it for about 10 minutes

UPDATE
today i tried a cd and it worked fine but the ipod still wont work so it is either the ipod or the wire which both appear fine but i will take the cord to the ipod out and check it and also restart the ipod and with that i will hope it would start working again, either way its weird that the speakers would crackle like to due to either of those things and even weirder is that they started to crackle at different times like i described above. so as of now i believe i have it figured out, if i need some more help i will repost, thanks again

Sounds like the radio is acting up. So the ground is connected right?

the ground is connected at the radio at least, do you know where it leads off to or should i cut it and ground it somewhere close to make sure

the head unit is only a year old and is just like new

You can try hooking up the front speaker outputs on the radio to the rear speakers in your car to see if that part of the radio is shot OR disconnectiong the front speakers from the head unit to see if the back speakers will work with the front disconnected. Another thing would be to check all the wiring you can everywhere you spliced a connection just to be sure nothing is shorting out. Short of bad wiring, I would suspect your head unit is dying on you.

If you have a short in any speaker wire, the head unit will shut down its amplifier and none of the speakers will play. Start by pulling the harness plug and measure the speakers thru the wires in the car, should be a couple of ohms from + to - of each speaker and infinite ohms from every speaker wire to ground and also every speaker wire to every other one except the one other one that goes to the same speaker. If that makes any sense...

With the head unit connected and on, even with the volume all the way down, you should measure about 6 volts DC from each speaker wire to ground, if not the head unit is defective or it's in shutdown.

Yeah you might need to check all the wiring, even from the speakers. If something is touching it will make the radio shut down
