not their amps, maybe overpriced, but not crap.....and the old school RF's were pretty amazing as far as i know. Underrated like nobodies business (but then most amps back then were lol)

they didnt have fuses in their amps and they tended to blow speakers easily for some strange reason.

also look into CRUNCH amps they are really good and powerful they are high rms amps
i buy them when i find them for sell i have used them for many of years in alot of cars

Seriously? I haven't read one good thing about them till now

Just look at the guts.....look pretty weak to me, but i've never used one. Maybe they're an ok budget brand, but i doubt they're "really good".

edit: oh ya i forgot about that fuse problem....

Hmm, I just want something that's going to provide clean power to the sub.. nuthin fancy. If they work well, they're certainly cheap enough on eBay...

Is it better to get a Class D amp for subs? Seems like most of the amps available are AB.

class D amps are generally more efficient than class AB amps, but aren't very good at reproducing high frequencies, which is why you'd want an AB amp to run your speakers. As long the AB has a Low pass filter (LPF) then it will be fine to use with your sub

ok, that's cool then.. thanks for the help.

one last question... will an amp rated at 500w rms bridged/ 1000w peak put any strain on the electrical/charging system?

i had a cheapo jensen 300w amp powering a pioneer 12" in my old 93 mx6, and the interior lights would dim with the bass when i had it cranked.

i think i'm gonna just head to Fry's tomorrow and grab something. if i dont like it, i can always take it back.

^ not a bad idea.

It should be fine, just don't crank it for a long time with the car off.....And if you had dimming from a JENSEN 300w amp, you have other, more serious problems with you electrical lol. was the car on?

^ um, no, if you have that problem, then just upgrade the alternator and battery, don't just add more components to the system.

And don't refer to Rockford fosgate as 'crap'. I don't care how much you 'know' and have been around high end systems and all that jazz. But Rockford Fosgate is not considered crap. Don't always recommend more expensive speakers on the market because that doesn't always mean they will sound better.

I can make a complete sony system sound 10x better than a more respectable audio brand install. It's all about the install and tuning and planning.
