New Sub/Amp
#11
is that the power series sub? jbl reccommends sealed boxes for all there beefy subs. you can use ported, but i've fried a lot of them in ported boxes. if you want to really get some juice out of that sub, no offense, drop the kenwood. we sell them, and they don't hit 1800w going downhill with a backwind. i'd reccommend fosgate 1000.1 and up for that beast.
EDIT-and Kenwood's manual for it even says that it puts out 500w@4ohms 900w@2ohms and 900w@1ohm and those are all rated at 14.4v and anybody running that amp isn't gunna be at 14.4v

rms just means steady power, a thump aint ****, its the thmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmp that you wanna hear, your highs and lows, different hertz of bass. rms is how many watts it will handle steady, think of it this way, i poke you in a pressure point like behind your ear. it hurts but its fine, nothing to cry over. now i poke you again but instead of removing my finger, i leave it there, the pain just continues and gets worse. thats like the peak power and rms. steady power is what you want to look for.

with the amp set to pretty much all up (not recommended, but profesionally adjusted by an ex-infiniti car electrician) the ported box was beyong good, it actually made it breath and sound more clean.
