no box for subs?*pic*
im thinking of a new trunk set up that i have to start working on,i got some ideas when i came across this pic, these subs are not in a box, they are just screwed into 3/4 inch mdf then the mdf is screwed into the rear deck..i read the artical and its called "free-air" set up, now i got a question, would this sound good??, right now i got 2 12" memphis in a ported box and there loud so if i set them up like this i dont want to loose the sound of them, will i? comments? thanks

Fee-air subs are a special sub with a ridiculously stiff suspension. If you just put yours back there it would sound like poo even though the trunk seves as a makeshift acoustic suspension. Do this for your subs but build a box under them. That's what I am gonna do.
I disagree. Free air subs work fairly well if installed right. In order to pull a free air sub gig off, you got to completly keep the top and bottom of the subwoofer to successfully seperate frequencies.
Now mill$civic. Do you have any idea what consits in a honda civic up under the rear deck? You will be into some serious custom modifiaction.

your right memingtion870_20ga,i was just thinking about whats under my rear deck and it would be kinda tuff to do this, but u say that i have to keep the bottom and top of the subwoofer to successfully seperate frequencie..could you please explane a little better?
yup. A good example even though I hate to admit it, is an acura tsx? type s, with the bose system[:'(]
Another good example,
is the Harmon Kardon system in the 3 series bimmers with subwoofer package.
