NO POWER TO RED WIRE
 

My Alpine was working just fine until I tried to install some other headunit (Planet Audio DVD player). I think I might have messed the red wire up somehow when trying to find a power source for the blue/white remote turn-on wire coming from the amp. When I hotwire it (yellow pair with red pair) the radio works but I have to manualy turn it on and off (wont turn on in acc and wont turn off until I press the power button).

What to do?

Check the radio fuse under the dash. The acc power comes from there. The constant power for the yellow wire comes from a fuse under the hood.

o sick thank you. also, do you know what I should do to connect my remote led to a power source since theres no remote wire coming from the radio harness?

When the head unit doesn't have an amp turn on output wire, splice the remote wire from the amp(s) into the red accessory wire at the head unit.

If your head unit does have a amp turn on output wire, connect it only to the amp(s). This single wire is independent of the car's stock wiring harness.

Some head units have only one blue wire which may be labeled "Power Antenna" even though it is active whenever the unit is on (such as when playing a CD). A true "Power Antenna" wire is active only when the AM or FM tuner is selected.

I did that though and Im pretty sure I blew a fuse or two but I could try again. Another problem is theres no RCA inputs on the radio, just a single RCA wire labeled "subwoofer". Should I get a y-cable for that or should I all together leave that cord and plug my RCA's from the amp to the Rear inputs coming from the radio harness?

Use a Y cable to split the subwoofer signal to the two subwoofer amps. Some amps have a "Mono" mode where one input drives both outputs for use with a pair of subwoofers and a head unit with a single RCA plug output. If your amp is like that then you can set it up for mono and won't need the Y cable.

If you use rear out instead of sub out then you won't be able to use the subwoofer frequency and level controls in the head unit.

I only have one amp though. and 2 subs. What I mean is the RCA "input" regarding the specific sub input is a single RCA. Theres no L/R rca input.

You have a 2 channel amp with one sub on each channel, right?

In that case split the single sub out of the head unit thru a Y adapter into two RCA plugs. Plug one into each of the amp inputs, left and right. You can do this either at the head unit or back at the amp. There is no need to make a distinction from left to right with subs. You cannot hear which direction the bass is coming from.
