problem with stereo receiving power

everytime i turn the key, my stereo receives power like normal... but when i actually start the engine, theres times when the stereo doesnt even turn on... apparently it has no power... instead it will randomly turn on like 10 - 15 minutes into my trip...
the only way i can force it 2 turn on is 2 turn off the engine and restart it...

any1 have any ideas what it could be? or what i could do 2 fix it?

i know it has nothing 2 do with the receiver as i just got a new sony xplod... its been doing that for a while with both receivers...

any1 have ideas?

RE: problem with stereo receiving power

First check whether the connector at the rear of the stereo is loose or not firmly seated.

Otherwise, look for a damaged power wire to the unit.

Could be the key switch. It has an accessory circuit which is on in the first click or on, but not in start. Besides the stereo there isn't much else connected to it, maybe the lighter.

i had this problem before. it turned out that my constant power 12V wire did not have power at the end of the wire. idk how the constant power source was the problem, but it was... i ran a new wire and it was fixed.

Is this a factory or aftermarket stereo? If aftermarket you might want to check to make sure the wires are connected properly to the aftermarket wire harness.

I had a similar problem...only the problem was not with the POWER at all but instead with a crappy ground (drove me nuts until I figured it out). There was a handy screw at the back of my deck, and I just used that and ran an extra ground to the chassis (I think I used a seat mounting bolt...but at least it worked and its hidden)

RE: problem with stereo receiving power

well i seriously doubtthe problem iswith the grounding because ive grounded it through the aftermarket connector, and ive grounded it straight to the chassis and its the same thing

yeah its an aftermarket receiver

my only bet is to check the power wires, because its actually pretty rare that it will start up in the middle of a trip...
perhaps theres problems with the battery? perhaps a better battery for stereos?or most likely simply a wire problem?
