Default problems with my 2001 Civic odometer 888888 and gauges

Hi,

I have a problem with my gauge cluster. I read a lot about it but I couldnt find an answer yet. Sometimes the odometer shows TRIP AB 8888888 and sometimes everything works fine. Also all the gauges sometimes just die meaning that everything marks 0. Temp, gas RPM and Speedometer..

All the lights in dash work fine.

I have noticed that when the problem occurs (usually when put the ignition) the battery light blinks intermintently so I think that it could a grounding issue.

However I have cleaned almost all the contacts under the dash and checked the wiring.

I think that It could be any conector under the hood.

Any advice will be helpful.. I am really tired of been dealing with that problem.

thanks

Have your alternator tested.

Default Had the exact same problem

I ended up replacing the instrument cluster with one from a Junk Yard.
Only problem I have now is the new Cluster Mileage reads way higher than my last one.

I am not sure if you can reset the mileage or if the PCM has an auto configure that will load the correct Mileage. Any ideas on that would be great.

I think you can take it to the dealer and they can set it for you.

You may call up some dealers and see if they can reprogram it for you, which if they can do, I'm sure they won't do for a small fee . Otherwise, you can always keep checking eBay or recycle yards for used clusters and find one that most closely matches yours for mileage...

The contact solder points in your instrument cluster are loose, you need to remove your cluster remove the white plastic cover and resolder the 12 conector points that are by the wire harness plugs.
