Default Purchasing new stuff soon, would like more confidence...

Hi I'm a new member to the forums, but I have spent many hours reading over the threads here. I am new to the car audio scene and I recently purchased a new '05 Civic EX sedan. By recently I mean .....10 months ago. (It still seems new to me)

I wanted to upgrade my sound system without voiding any warranty that i still might be under. After talking to some guys at Tweeter, he assured me id be okay, even with the cutting into the door for the tweeters. Whew!

I am looking to spend around 1500-2000 for my car and the guys at tweeter came up with this setup. Now I tried researching all these parts online, but ....reviews are scare and I'd like to take advantage of a winter sale they are having.

The guys set me up with:

An Alpine head unit: CDA-9851 ----I wanted it to match up with my guages, if there is a better one, please recommend it ^_^;;;
2 Boston Acoustic SL60's for the front, with tweeters mouted near the rear view mirrors
2 Boston Acoustic SX65's for the back
4 guage wiring
2 10" JL 150w 10w1 subs
1 JL Amp, the 300/4

I wanted a midrange system to listen to rock and roll, and some rap....and the guy said for my price cap 2000, this was the best I can do. This all includes their installation. I have heard that it is better to have a seperate mono amp for the subwoofer, but the guy assured me getting one 300/4 JL amp for all of it is better than getting a 2 Alpine amps. (1 for mono, and one for speakers). Any help at all would be really really appreicated, I just want to hear some feedback on this, as I don't have any friends that are into the car audio scene. Thanks a lot, I look forward to your replies.

Welcome to the forum!

Looks like you have a pretty good list going there. Alpine head units are the **** (for the money) and Boston makes some really nice stuff. As for the subs and amp I don't think I would personally go with JL Audio but they're pretty good.

I love my JL e1800 monoblock amp. They do make pretty good stuff althought my subs are Infinity and they rock.

I dunno much about Boston, but I think you can do better for what you are willing to spend.

Boston Acoustics is very nice gear! But if your budget is $2000 I think you can do better overall in your package. I would also personally want two seperate amps for my highs and my subs.

alpine decks are awesome. i have the 9847 and its everything i wanted. i personally like kicker amps. i have the kx 600.4. and its pretty much two seperate amps. one can be highs the other can be lows. or both high or both low. so you can run subs and speakers off it. and do the instal yourself on the deck and speakers. its easy and youll save some money there.

I checked out the website and it seems to offer the same prices as I am getting for the parts in the store. Basically I think the majority of my money is going to their labor costs.

I'll definately stick with a Alpine headunit now, but I'm unsure about the speakers, amp and sub now. I know a lot of you guys like the inifinity subs, so I'll see if I can replace my JL ones with those. Also, do you recommend any other speaker types that I could look into? I heard alpine is so-so and people don't seem to talk about Boston too much. Infinities look good, but I hear they have decent mids and crappy lows. I guess speakers dont really need good lows though, you know, cause of the sub and all.

I too would like a seperate monoblock amp for my sub, are their any manufacturer's besides Rockford and Sony you guys recommend? I'd get a seperate JL one but the cost is too high. I originally planned on only spending a grand. But there is always a "much better part" for 100 more dollars or something.

Oh and also, thanks for all the replies guys. It really made my day to see that so many people cared and responded. Honestly I was afraid my post would go unnoticed. I'm definately going to stay on this board and try to become a regular. =D

No sir! You do not mention sony xplodes to someone with a $2000 budget, I wouldn't recommend sony xplodes to someone with a $200 budget.
