Radio Security Code - Please help out a friend
Guys,
I have posted this on other automotice forums, but no one seems interested in helping....
I have a friend that needs some real big help. She is a newly graduated kindergarten teacher and a very good person!, and doesn't have much money as of yet.
She has a 2000 honda civic that I helped her change the alternator out a few days ago and now her radio is locked and asking for a code.
I searched on the internet and found that there should be a sticker on the glove box with the radio SN but there isn't. I also checked the trunk too since someone said they found the SN there.
I do have her owners manual.
Her VIN is 1HGEM299412102601
We have called 3 Honda dealerships and all of them want to charge between 45 and 65 dollars for the code.
Can anyone help her?
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your help!
-Chris (and Andrea)

They shouldn't be charging you anything. Same thing happened to my grandpa, I called the dealership for him, gave them some information about the car and about him so they know its the real owner, then they called me back in 5 minutes and gave me a code. Free. That's the only way to go, you can always buy a cheep aftermarket deck too.
There ya go. Use the hookup, or go to your local dealer and get it. They will just walk out to your car, get the serial, and look it up. It takes like 3 min.
To be honest, I dont know why anyone would wanna steal a stock radio anyway, Honda radios blow, ha ha.

Thank you guys! I'll get it tonight. Since I don't have a sticker with the SN on it, do I just pop off the bezel for the radio/ac controls and use a DIN tool to take the radio out?

Just take your car up there and they can tell you what they need. If you have to take the radio out when you get there it should only take you a few minutes to do so. Good luck.
My 02 CRV serial number was accessible by pressing a few key buttons at once. I can't remember which ones, but if yours is one of those models you don't have to remove it. Type in honda radio code in google or soemthing and see what models can do that.
