RCA cables melting!!

I just installed an amp and sub. It was working fine, then the subs started to thump on its own. Afterchecking everything i unstalled the wires to the amp, and its still thumping, And also my RCA cable's are melting and smoking. What is the problem, it was working fine then all this happends!!!

The RCA cables that came with the amp kit are colors red and black. Im gessing the black means white? But it was working fine so i dont understand!!

RE: RCA cables melting!!

Your amplifier is not properly grounded. The current is flowing thru the RCA cables and the head unit ground instead.

You can use any color wires you like as long as you keep left and right right.

Is it ok to remove one of them bolts that are at the end of the trunk under the carpet? Will that be a good ground??

a decent pre existing bolt is the rear bumper brace. they are on the left and right side of the trunk 2 bolts going straight down.... just remove 1 bolt and use a wire brush and clean the metal around the bolt and then ground it there! with the factory bolt.

but now that your rcas are melted id say you should replace them! damage could be done internaly and shorting the wires...... and hopefully it didnt mess up your radios rca outputs!

I went to radio shack, and bought a box with all that stuff for eletrical work n stuff. it came with like 4 size rings. onewas biger than what i had at home so i thoght it would fit..... i get home and, nope still need a lil bigger!!!this has been nothing but problems, one thing to the next... will it till work if i cut the ring and wrap it around and tightin the bolt over it?

When i was there i also bought wire cuters..lol now i buy them after i have dodne the job, using my teeth....

i have it hookt up and its working!! i can only use it on one channel, i think its hpf. if i have it on the other two channels, it looks like the subs are breathing. they will suck in then out, not making a loud thump like befor, but doing wierd things. I dont have the gain to high but high enuff to get that nice bass. So its working now, so it should not blow the amp or what not?...hhhhh
