Default Stereo / Keyless Entry

I have recently bought a 2 year old Civic I want to change the factory head unit, but i have been told it can effect the keyless entry system as the head unit recieves the signal. is this right??

I've never heard of a keyless entry system hooked up to the radio before. The keyless entry system is its own sperate module which has different radio frequency "channels" to control different things depending on which button is pressed. Maybe this is the confusion? I highly doubt that the dealer would wire up your keyless system to your head unit. It just doesn't make sense. the keyless entry system is not part of the head unit... unless yours isn't factory and someone wired it up funny.

Edit: I have a 99 civic which had a factory head unit and factory keyless system. I replaced the head unit (twice) with no problems to the keyless system. (I never even thought about it).

Hi,

There is a special thing made...a T connector. It will allow you to hook up your AM headunit (in dash) and hide the stock headunit behind the dash with both connected.

This will allow you to have a new headunit and keep your keyless entry.

Aside from that, I would recommend you get a good alarm (which usually come with AM keyless entry) when you replace your radio anyway. Safety.

Hope that helps.

This is in fact 100% true. You can still add an aftermarket keyless though.
