Default stock head unit trouble

hey guys first boys and first day with my new-to-me civic, my first car actually.

they disconnected the battery to give me a new one at the dealer, now my head unti just says "code". i called a dealer and asked them, they said i need to put the key in the ACC position and press and hold 1 and 6 for a few seconds, i did that and nothing also tried every other option having to do with 1 and 6. power on, power off, key in on postion, again power on and power off, nothing. it doesn't give me a new code. the guy at the dealer said i need to do this to get a code, then call the dealer with that code and he can give me the proper code????

help?

ok, when i got my civic it came with a little book with the owners manual in it. It has a card with the code on it. If you dont have that you're pretty much screwed.

no mine has no card. with the key in the ignition, set to ACC, i pushed the power button "on" on the headunit while holding 1 and 6 down, the headunits serial numbers showed up, i now need to call the dealer with these numbers and my stero will work.

thanks for reading.
