I would go with face detacheble because it shows off it's uselessnessif stolen to the dumbest kid around. The one with the code requires some amount of intelligency and experience on the thief side to be able to tell that this particular model is useless if stolen, and thus does not protect from idiots...

Both companys are great, but im more of a panasonic fan. +1 on the detachable face, its a must. But really, I would say alarm first.

Clarion has been getting better lately, and they weren't that shabby to start with 10 years ago when I heard one of their top of the line cd players in a friends vehicle. He beat that thing all to heck and it never failed him.

I run an alpine cd player atm that i bought back in 98 or 99 sometime, It was the middle range, and I still use it today, its been in 4 cars since then, I stand by any Alpine product, and give clarion alot of love!

But alarm is a good idea, look around localy, surely you can get a decent door/trunk/hood type switcher alarm installed for under 150-200. Thats on my huge list of things to do.

yea an alarm is deff on my 2 do list but not something that can wait imo, if i get a dtechable face plate indash and wen i take the indash off the recieevr, will it make it appear as if it is not an indash dvdplayer nad make itl ook like a regular cd player??? or will it still make it appear as if it is an indash dvdplayer just without the face plate??

no doubt in my mind an alarm would help, but jus cause u have an alarm doesnt mean a skilled thief cant take it out, taking out an indash does not require too much time

On the same note, just make sure you snap a pic of your electronics, and keep it for your insurance company.. If someone jacks it, you can always turn it in.

But yeah, the detachable face is probably the best answer!
