Trunk bars

Maybe I'm blind but there was a DIY for making homemade trunk bars and I can't seem to find this anymore. Am I imagining things or just blind? LOL

what are you looking for now? homemade trunk bars... you mean the springs that hold them up?

or are you talking about the flip flop trunk lid hinges to flip the trunk lid down with it open?

I was just checking out your DIY for roof fabric replacement, that's sick. Err, I think it was your DIY anyways.

Anyways, here's what I'm going for. When I bought my car, it didn't have the spare. I also had a trunk leak, which I fixed, but as a consequence, my particle board trunk material droops a litte. Anyways, I can't imagine placing a subwoofer on it. When I saw a thread for trunk bars, I imagined they stabilized the crappy particle board but maybe I'm incorrect?

yep thats me. thanks

so you just want to brace a subwoofer box.
thats very simply...

get some 1/2inch MDF and cut afew panels... youll be cutting 3 pieces. two that will go towards the sides that go from the outside contors and then goes towards the center trunk area BUT NOT over the opening...
you want to give it at least 1-2inches of overlap on both sides. then simply carpet all 3 pieces with some carpet and glue.
that will give you a hard even floor to put your stereo setup on. and if you want to go even further dont carpet it until you find out where your subwoofer box will be sitting, then use a sander or grinder or even a wood chisel to cut out a section to fit a pair of hinges of decent size, the cutouts will let the hinges sit flush. and when you carpet over the hinges and the whole panel it will look seemless for a hidden trap door effect. and that will give you access to that spare tire space to put anything you want like tools, oil, other misc junk you want out of site and not sliding around all over the place.

its really very easy.
i did a similar setup on my old 84towncar i had along time ago and it looked great! and i had a bunch of tools and battery jumper pack and all kinds of stuff hidden in that lower area!

but if ya jsut want to be lazy simply make a cutout of 1/2inch or 3/4mdf and some scrap 2x4s.
simply cut the wood to go in the whole to be level and then get the 2x4s and simply build some feet to kinda make a table like setup.
just get alittle creative and just do it.

also CARDBOARD is your best friend when making custom cutout sections... simply cut out the cardboard to fit a shape since you can cut it with a simple razor blade and when your fit it good just lay it on the wood and trace it out ;)

on a side note with both my last civics the stock cardboard liner where both warped very badly. i still sat the subwofer box over the openings just fine. but my boxes where very wide and had no way to fall into the lower area.

Nah try this. Go to Home depot, lowe's, wherever and buy like a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" MDF. Use that for your floor ;) I'll get some pics and better directions in a second

edit: screw the pics, its way to easy for them.....and uhhh, what addiction said LOL! Actually you can just use your carpet to get the layout of your trunk. The carpets connected to other carpet, but just cut it and then you can take it out. Also if you want to get fancy, you can make a hinged door for the spare tire well like this guy...http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/f...howtopic=25711

Oh and your trunk is a little wider than four feet, so if you just buy a 4x8 sheet, dont cut it quite in half

well most people dont have a truck to haul a massive piece of wood. but most places like home depo already sell cut sections of 3/4mdf and alot of different thicknesses and sizes i think they are 2ft by 4-5foot cannt remember exactly off hand but helps lot when you dont have a truck ;)

plus you can load and unload the wood yourself no problem.LOL 3/4mdf full sheet is quite heavy and very large for one person to load and unload... ive done it plenty of times but if you slip you can mess up a corner which wastes wood if you need a square joint.

+1 Haha I've never had to worry about it till a little while ago. We own a 15 passenger van, so i had more room than your truck ;) But its not driven enough so we took the insurance off of it......man i miss driving that thing!

And any place that has that stuff should be able to cut it for you on the spot.

That link is freaking sick. I'm thinking I may have to just do that. Love the hinged door. I also love the port aimed into the interior. I'd do the same thing but I have a sealed box since I mostly listen to rock / metal instead of rap. Do you guys typically aim the subwoofer speakers away from the interior? Does it matter?

addiction2bass Apr 14, 2009 10:47 AM

for any box setup in a trunk its loudest pointing towards the rear bumper....

Yeah that link was pretty much the reason I started bulding ny own box and floor lol!
