I have found out that RainX actually works really well. I will tell you the truth, I am not sure what it does to the paint though.

A clay bar is exactly what you need. Just use plenty of lubricant. Believe me I've removed tree sap and paint overspray from my car and others' countless times. Best of luck to you!

ya just us the gloo gone stuff... stuff works for just about everything
i just used it today to remove the crapy double sided tape from the wheel place balancing my wheels. i hate that.... ya pay a preaty penny for some rubber and balancing and when trying to balance the rims they just leave the left over crap on the wheels when the weight isnt right

another thing you can use which will cost alittle more but work faster/ BUT youll need to wax it afterwards...
its a surface cleaner that you can get at most places that sell paint...... its ment to clean surfaces before paint cause it removes all crap off the surface, wax, glue, dust...bla bla bla.... works great! just stronger than the goo gone stuff. but its still a good idea to wash the car and wax it after.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I've never had a problem getting it off with clay. It works especially well removing it from glass. Most of the sap I've removed has been misted on the car in like small droplets. But, I hope the goo gone stuff works for you. If that doesn't you might try denautured alcohol or mineral spirits. I've read that works on tree sap fairly well. Good luck.
