Default compound

So when I bought my car the owner before me never waxed or really washed the car so one day i was masking the brake lights to tint and when i removed the tape the true shine came out. so now i want to get that shine back. I try BY HAND (big mistake on my part) to use some polish type of compound, but it looks like I might need to use the buffer machine but was told to be carefull i don't rub the paint off. plus i wasn't sure how much compound and how long do i leave the compound for. I'm i going at this the wrong way? should i just leave it and wait till I paint the car?

no need to paint. There are many products out there to help. You can do it by hand or by machine but I would be careful as some products and machines can be very damaging. There are some detailers here but it sounds like you need to read a little before you start anything. Check out autopia.org and autogeek.net Both of those forums have people who know what they are talking about. It is very focused.

Good luck.

150 is NOT a bad price. Well, what are you getting for that price? I charge 20$ an hour FYI and usually take 10+
