Hey guys, i just got my windows tinted. This is my first time having tint, is there any special steps i need to follow when cleaning my windows now. Any substances that will mess up the tint or anything.

Don't use a house hold window cleaner to clean the windows.

 

Okay thanks for that tip, i would have used windex. What do you recommend for cleaning the windows.

Invisible Glass. you can find it at most auto parts stores, and even Meijer.

 

Just make sure it's ammonia free.

 

Also, if you smoke, it seems like the smoke from the cigarettes leaves more of a film on the tint than it did on the windows before i had them tinted. You might notice the windows get a little dirtier if you smoke. No big deal really, comes off fairly easy when cleaned. And be careful when taking off your seatbelt, lol. I took mine off fast one time when i was in a hurry and the buckle put a nice little slash in the tint.

 

You can use any kind of window cleaner you want as long as it does not have ammonia in it. You can find glass cleaners with vinegar in them at most grocery stores or just about anywhere. They will work fine.

 

I norammly just get my own spray bottle and fill with clean water and like 1-2 drops of dishwashing soap.

Dishwashing soap is normmaly good enough to clean anything but not harmfull since its menat to be used by your hands alot.

I also use this same type of solution for washing flat panel monitors at home since the materials are similar.

I did the same thing to my '82 Mustang (first car with tint). Never again since though.

In addition to using cleaners without ammonia, use soft paper towels to keep the scratching to a minimum. As well, learn to wipe from the center of the windows towards the edge to prevent catching the edge of the film and peeling it back up (this most likely won't happen to you - but ya can't be too careful).

If your car must live in the sun (more than the shade) I suggest rotating the direction you park it to even out the sunburn - constant exposure to sunlight can shorten the life expectancy of window tint, in addition to cause any imperfection in the film or installation process to become a bigger issue sooner (bubbles, streaks, adhesive breakdown, etc.).
