Cold Air Intake Installation (96-00 Civic)
My 1st diy :o My girlfriend is getting mad with this tuning stuff. :D
Please correct me if anything is wrong or miss spelled. Suggestions are welcome!:) Time: About 1 hour of work. Tools: Phillips screwdriver Teeth screwdriver (correct?) 10mm wrench 10mm bolt spanner 0- Disconnect the Negative terminal from battery. Just in case. 1- The 10 bucks cai. Bought in ebay. Arrived today :). Pretty good finishing and the filter is BIG. http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8...edityo1.th.jpg 2- Remove the bolts from both side of bumper with the phillips screwdriver. http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7...editfd0.th.jpg 3- Remove the bolts under the bumper with the 10mm wrench. http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5...editfh0.th.jpg 4- Carefully remove the bumper presses (correct?) with a little teeth screwdriver. They broke easily. Remove the bumper. http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/4...editax2.th.jpg 5- Disconnect the Intake Temperature Sensor and the Oil Return Tube. Remove the filter box. Remove the bolt that fixes the intake tube and resonator box. http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/2...editze3.th.jpghttp://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5...editaz4.th.jpg 6- Remove the press that fix the plastic that stops the mud (direct translation lol). Be careful not to broke the fixes, like me. http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/9...editoz7.th.jpg 8- Fix the rubber in the intake hole. Will help to hang the tube and not to damage it. http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6...editmu8.th.jpg 9- Tight the armbands. Plug the ITS and the ORT. http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6...editho8.th.jpghttp://img169.imageshack.us/img169/1...editox8.th.jpg 10- Fix the filter and tight the armband. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/1...editzw5.th.jpg 11- Look around and be sure not to miss place any tool or so inside the engine compartment. Reconnect the battery terminal. Test the engine. here it got a deep sound and quicker response. 12- Replace the bumper. And store the original parts. 14-The funnest part, go for a ride! Things you might want to add:
If you bought an "ebay brand" intake you should replace the filter with a name brand one (K&N and AEM good ones) because the ebay ones aren't good. And also the "disconnect battery" step is not only for safety but will also add a little to performance, because having the battery disconnected for 15min+ resets the ECU, then right after installing the intake turn the car on and leave it parked and idling (dont drive anywhere or give it gas) for 10-15min and the ECU "learns" the new hardware and makes slight adjustments. Good write up tho and the pictures are definitely a plus as well |
