Cold Air Intake Installation (96-00 Civic)
My 1st diy My girlfriend is getting mad with this tuning stuff.
Please correct me if anything is wrong or miss spelled. Suggestions are welcome!
Time:
About 1 hour of work.
Tools:
Phillips screwdriver
Teeth screwdriver (correct?)
10mm wrench
10mm bolt spanner
0- Disconnect the Negative terminal from battery. Just in case.
1- The 10 bucks cai. Bought in ebay. Arrived today . Pretty good finishing and the filter is BIG.
2- Remove the bolts from both side of bumper with the phillips screwdriver.
3- Remove the bolts under the bumper with the 10mm wrench.
4- Carefully remove the bumper presses (correct?) with a little teeth screwdriver. They broke easily. Remove the bumper.
5- Disconnect the Intake Temperature Sensor and the Oil Return Tube. Remove the filter box. Remove the bolt that fixes the intake tube and resonator box.
6- Remove the press that fix the plastic that stops the mud (direct translation lol). The picture speaks for it self.
7-Remove the tube and resonator box. Be careful not to broke the fixes, like me.
8- Fix the rubber in the intake hole. Will help to hang the tube and not to damage it.
9- Tight the armbands. Plug the ITS and the ORT.
10- Fix the filter and tight the armband.
11- Look around and be sure not to miss place any tool or so inside the engine compartment. Reconnect the battery terminal. Test the engine. here it got a deep sound and quicker response.
12- Replace the bumper. And store the original parts.
14-The funnest part, go for a ride!
Hope it helps.
Cheers!

Things you might want to add:
If you bought an "ebay brand" intake you should replace the filter with a name brand one (K&N and AEM good ones) because the ebay ones aren't good. And also the "disconnect battery" step is not only for safety but will also add a little to performance, because having the battery disconnected for 15min+ resets the ECU, then right after installing the intake turn the car on and leave it parked and idling (dont drive anywhere or give it gas) for 10-15min and the ECU "learns" the new hardware and makes slight adjustments.
Good write up tho and the pictures are definitely a plus as well
