Default ecu question

Hey all,
I'm a total noob to all of this so please don't flame me. First off I'll explain my car...I recently bought a 96 civic si, put a new air filter in yadda ya. My first question is...should I reset the ecu when I put something like this in? Will it benefit from it at all or not, I read on another forum that some guy does it whenever he adds a new air filter etc. If this should happen what fuse should I be pulling to reset it? There's a quick tutorial on the same forum, but I can't seem to find the proper fuse beside my battery.

Second question which doesn't have to do anything with the ecu I don't think. But I'm living in kelowna now and during the nights it's getting pretty chilly (bellow freezing level). Whenever I start up the engine in the morning there's a slight knocking/rattling sound for the first like 20 seconds. It continues whenever I hit about 3000 rpm until the engine has been driven for a minute or so. Is this something to be worried about?

thanks for your replies

B

Well you just reset the ecu by simply unplugging the negative from your battery... filters as in a drop in filter? I have never heard of resetting the ecu for a stock filter... I have heard of resetting it for a Shortram or CAI but i didnt do it and it is fine. you can do it if you want to but you'll have to reset your settings on your cd player all over again...

Welcome to the forum

Hey,
Thanks for the quick reply and the welcome. It is just a stock filter I forgot to mention. Any ideas on the severity of the second question?

hey guys the ECU does not need to be reset at all it is a learning computer it sees the reading from the O2 sensor and adjusts acordingly there is no difference it takes about 10 miles for the car to learn its new fuel curv thats all it does.when you reset it has to learn all over again with major mods it happens because you take the battery cable out anyway but air filter noway that kind of stuff is small potatos.
