Honda Civic RPM gauge cluster swap???
Hey i own a 1997 Honda Civic LX Sedan with a D16Y7 engineand auto tranny. It has a gauge cluster w.o an RPM tach... if i get the gauge cluster with an rpm tach in it... is there any way to get it to work... even if i wire it separately like a regular tach... or is it basically a plug and play thing.?????? if u could help me with this id greatly appreciate it cuz the parts about $450 and i dont wanna waste my time or money cuz im only 17.:)

it IS a plug and play thing.
What the heck is 450?? I gauge cluster w/tach should only run you 80 bucks MAX |
RE: Honda Civic RPM gauge cluster swap???
well i dont want just a regular ****ty dealer cluster, im getting mine shipped from japan... nd it comes out of the Mugen Civic Type-R... thts $450. and its like AEM's Plug nd Play System... you just plus it into your ECU reading slot... like a wiring harness. So what im asking is if the stock wiring harness will work with the JDM cluster... it has the same plug ins... but i want to know if its as easy as it looks or do i have to wire the tach like i would with a Separate Auto Meter Tach... like running a separate wire to the tach then all the other gauges and sourcing it from the battery, grounding it, and getting a reading off the coil pack. Or can it work the the speedometer readings. Im a mechanic and everyone says it should just work with the plug in... but i figured someone on here has already done it that way i dont have to start fabricating things.

no you should have all the harnesses you need. Theres a tach wire coming into the cluster behind your engine temp gauge on your DX cluster right now, btu since you dont have a tach on there its just a dead end wire.
