Default Hondata Fuel Management

Located at http://www.hondata.com/aboutus.html

Members and HCF as a forum is not tied in with Hondata in any way, I am giving this information so you a member and a honda owner can pick a fuel management system to best suit your needs

What does Hondata do?

Hondata modifies standard Honda engine computers (ECUs), adding features and expanding the capabilities of the ECU (e.g. for forced induction). Several products are offered, including tunable systems, tuning software and datalogging software.

Does Hondata cover my vehicle?

Hondata covers most vehicles from 1992 up, but some vehicles require the use of an adapter harness and/or OBDI ECU swap.

Use the application wizard to see what products are available for your vehicle, or view applications by ECU, applications by engine or applications by vehicle

Why should I buy a Hondata system instead of a replacement standalone computer?

Nothing runs a Honda engine as well as Honda ECU. End of story.

If your car is a daily driver then this is the system for you. If you are tuning a race only car where starting and idling is not a concern, and you need features that Hondata does not offer, like control of 8 injectors and boost control, then you will need to consider other systems. Running a Hondata system will not limit your power though. Two of the world's fastest Hondas; Erick's Racing's 9.99 second Civic and the Progress/Vortech 204 mph Civic both use Hondata systems.

If you will not be tuning the system yourself, but will be paying others for this, then the Hondata system not only drives better, it costs less, and is much faster to tune as it is supplied with numerous Honda specific maps to reduce your dyno time.

How do I tune the ECU?
For best results naturally aspirated ECUs should be tuned to each individual engine setup and forced induction ECUs must be tuned. Each engine combination is different and this is the only way to get optimum results for your application.

You can either get it tuned by a dealer or buy the ROM Editor tuning software and tune it yourself. Because it is best to tune the ECU using a dyno and wide band lambda meter, it usually works out best to get a dealer or someone with tuning experience and the equipment to tune the ECU for you.

If you want to tune Hondata for other people see dealer requirements.

Why should I buy a Hondata system instead of a plug in chip?
Most (but not all) plug in chip replacements claim to be a 'Mugen' program. Typically these chips disable error reporting for most sensors and give about 40 % worse fuel economy. The chips are popular with engine swaps because they eliminate most error codes caused by poor wiring.

How much will it cost?
If you get your system tuned by a dealer (or someone with ROM Editor software) the prices range for naturally aspirated is from $295 to $700. For turbo and supercharged applications the price range is from $495 to $995. The dealer's installation and dyno time is not included in this price.
If you want to tune your own vehicle (see above) add approximately $200 for ROM Editor $200 for HondaLogger and $270 for an EPROM programmer. With ROM Editor can you tune Hondata systems for other people.
Add approx $450 if your car is OBD II. For more information see what specific Hondata systems are offered for your vehicle.

Where do I find more information?

It is best to talk to your closest dealer first.
Read the tech section.
Download a brochure for the full price list.
Watch these quicktime videos for setting the launch control and full throttle shift on stage 3.
Download the software and manuals from the downloads section.
Visit our Hondata user forum and ask questions there.
Do you own a laptop? Consider downloading HondaLogger for real time datalogging and troubleshooting.
